These nations were both blood relatives of Israel, descendants of Lot’s incestuous acts committed in a cave with his two daughters (Genesis 12:4–5; Genesis 19:30–38). It is rather ironic, then, that these nations, with their origins, were over time so keen to humiliate their neighbouring relatives.
