It is a most remarkable picture that emerges in the prophecy. For the first time in Zephaniah the message sounds forth that after the devastation of both Judah (implied in Zephaniah 2:9 by the remnant of my people…the survivors of my nation
) and the surrounding nations, the worship of the living God will extend to the uttermost reaches of the earth.1 Thus, not just the remnant
of his people would worship, but all the lands of the nations will acknowledge the sovereignty and fearfulness of the Lord. In the end, foreign rebels and remnant alike from the most distant lands
will recognize the Lord as preeminent (Zephaniah 3:9–10, Zephaniah 3:15, Zephaniah 3:19; Isaiah 45:23; Isaiah 45:23).
11 The LORD will be awesome against them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth, and to him shall bow down, each in its place, all the lands of the nations.
