The jealousy of Joseph's brothers is mentioned in Genesis 37:11 and their actions in selling him as a slave in Genesis 37:12–36. It is possible that their jealousy is mentioned in order to draw a parallel between them and the Jewish leaders:1 the jealous brothers serving as a prototype of the Jewish leaders who plotted to eliminate Jesus (Acts 2:23, Acts 2:36; Acts 3:13–15; Acts 4:10–11; Acts 5:30) and Joseph as a prototype of Jesus’ followers, whom the Jewish leaders oppose out of jealousy (Acts 5:17; cf. Acts 13:45; Acts 17:5).2
