Psalm 50:4 (ESV)

4 He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:

The whole of creation—heaven and earth—is called to be witnesses in the lawsuit between God and his people (see Deuteronomy 4:26; Deuteronomy 30:19 and Isaiah 1:2; Micah 6:1–2). Thus, it will be intimidating for his people. They must never forget that they are God’s property in a special sense. That choice of God should encourage a life full of reverence for him. That should be visible to people. What once applied to Israel, now certainly applies to those who are called in Jesus Christ. The apostle Peter succinctly phrases it: But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9). Do we realize this full well?
