Psalm 50:23 (ESV)

23 The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”

Here we find the climax of this whole Psalm (see Psalm 50:14–15). Praising God is the highest thing man can do. It is also the first. Think here of the order that Jesus introduces in his teaching of prayer via the Lord’s prayer. First there are the three prayers about God’s name, his kingdom, and his will (Matthew 6:9–10; Luke 11:2). Honouring God is the most important task for man on earth. He who lives in such reverence before God will experience that God saves. In Hebrew it is here 'ﬠשׁיּ', yesua, Joshua, interpreted in Greek as Jesus. This person is the Saviour given to us from God (cf. Matthew 1:21). In him our salvation is firmly anchored once and for all. Paul can therefore write: And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30).

All of Psalm 50 is an exhortation to long for this redemption from God. Whoever does this will not seek his footing in his own works (offerings). Nor does he become entangled in the net of his own sinful desires. But he will experience that the Lord protects him (cf. Psalm 1:6a). He will experience the truth of God showing him his salvation (Psalm 91:16b).
