1. Acts 8:10 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean for Simon to be a divine power?

Acts 8:10 (ESV)

10 They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called Great.”

Simon likely claimed that he was divine.1 This does not mean that he considered himself to be the supreme being but rather that he claimed to have similar power.2 His works, whatever they were, drew attention to him whereas the works of Philip drew attention to Jesus Christ.3
