The book of Acts recounts the spread of the early church and the manner in which Christ works to take the gospel from Jerusalem, to Samaria, and finally to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). Your sermon from Acts 8:26–40 must focus on Philip’s interaction with the Ethiopian eunuch. You should highlight the fact that an outcast (an Ethiopian eunuch) is welcomed into God’s church. You should also draw attention to the Lord’s active involvement in making sure that the good news of Jesus Christ is shared with this Ethiopian individual. In terms of application, you can draw attention to the catholicity (universality) of God’s church. You can also highlight God’s sovereignty in salvation and what that means for our priorities as a church.
26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place.
