2 Kings 24:2 (ESV)

2 And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldeans and bands of the Syrians and bands of the Moabites and bands of the Ammonites, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by his servants the prophets.

This verse makes clear that the catastrophe of destruction was not simply a result of military-political factors, for this verse is the first to say that it came from the hand of the Lord. Nebuchadnezzar did not yet personally come to Jerusalem, but he sent mobs to ransack the country. Among them there were warriors who came from nations that had been subdued by him. That the Lord is in fact the agent is reiterated at the end of this verse by the statement that this happened according to the words of the prophets sent by the Lord.
