The chronicles of the kings of Judah
mentioned here are not to be taken as a reference to the biblical books of Chronicles; these chronicles referred to here are documents unknown to us (see at 2 Kings 14:18). The last thing the Bible book 2 Chronicles tells about Jehoiakim (2 Chronicles 36:6) is that he was taken captive to Babylon. How this can be reconciled with what is mentioned here in 2 Kings is discussed in the following verse.
5 Now the rest of the deeds of Jehoiakim and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
