How old was Eli at the time?

1 Samuel 2:22 (ESV)

22 Now Eli was very old, and he kept hearing all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who were serving at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

Eli was ninety-eight years old when he died (1 Samuel 4:15). Though we cannot be certain, it is likely that the events described in 1 Samuel 2:1–36 took place but a few years before his death.
