Genesis 2:2 (ESV)

2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

The seventh day dawns. We read that God completed his work on that day. We also read that he actually rested on the seventh day. The Lord completes his work by resting on this seventh day. His work of creation finds its purpose in rest, in the enjoyment of it.

When we read that the Lord rested on the seventh day, it does not mean that he did not do anything. He has rested from his creative work. He did not create anything new. Yet on that seventh day, through his Holy Spirit, he made sure that his whole perfect creation remained intact.
