What does Peter mean with “for human passions”?

1 Peter 4:2 (ESV)

2 so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.

The depraved human heart has a selfish, earth-centred, now-oriented focus, which is the dead end, narrow worldview of the spiritually unborn (see on 1 Peter 1:3). In 1 Peter 4:3 Peter will list some of the present-day expressions of this focus. The word “for” (or by) underscores the thought that “human passions” are the driving force of the unborn. Peter will provide examples of such passions in 1 Peter 4:3.
