Given Christ’s impending return (1 Peter 4:7a), Christians do well to give themselves to specific conduct. In 1 Peter 4:7–11 the apostle provides a series of connected commands. The string begins with self-control and sober-mindedness (v. 7), moves to earnest love (v. 8), then hospitality (v. 9) and serving one another (vv, 10–11), all so that the Lord God may be glorified (v. 11).
7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
