Dagon was the chief god of the Philistines (see Judges 16:23; 1 Chronicles 10:10).1 He was worshipped by them as well as other ancient Near Eastern people. In Ugarit, Dagon was considered to be the father of the storm god Baal.2 He was some kind of weather-fertility deity responsible for crops.3
