Satan gives the impression that God is only concerned with his own position of power. He portrays it as if God only cares about maintaining his own control at the expense of man. The devil urges the woman to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If they were to do so, they would even become like God; they would become divine. The devil tries to tempt the woman, and then also Adam, in this way. In doing so, he uses a wicked and deceptive scheme. Paul later recalls this in 2 Corinthians 11:3: “But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” According to the devil, man will certainly not die. According to his words, man will become like God by eating from this one tree.
5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
