Now when Adam works the land to grow food, thorns and thistles will appear among his crops. These threaten to choke the crop. Man therefore receives permission from God to also eat from the plants of the field. The plants of the field
should make us think especially of what we call vegetables today (see also the commentary on Genesis 1:29–30).
