In the original language, the word house
appears four times: Nebuzaradan burns the house of the Lord, the house of the king, all the houses in Jerusalem, yes, every great house.
It is no longer possible to feel at home in Jerusalem. Nebuzaradan obviously did this as instructed by King Nebuchadnezzar. If you place this beside Jeremiah 15:1–9 and Jeremiah 32:28, then you see that Nebuchadnezzar did this because the Lord allowed him to do this, and the Lord also wanted him to do this. The heathen Nebuchadnezzar executes the Lord’s will, even in the destruction of the house of the Lord! The Lord is not tied to a building of wood and stone, just as in the past he was not bound to a chest (1 Samuel 4:11). This shows the greatness of God: you can capture his ark, destroy his house, but with all that, you have not captured God, Lord of the universe. That is the big difference between God and the idols.
9 And he burned the house of the LORD and the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem; every great house he burned down.
