2 Kings 25:27 (ESV)

27 And in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, graciously freed Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison.

Evil-merodach is the son and successor of Nebuchadnezzar. It is probable, that the now 55-year-old Jehoiachin was not the only person who was freed from prison; an ascension to the throne was often accompanied by a general amnesty. And yet, for God’s people this generates hope, as it shows that God does not leave his people. There is a future for the house of David, so much even that the Lord will also fulfill the promise that at some point the great Son from the house of David will come, right through all suppression the people experience.
