Joshua 5:13—6:25 and the Trinity

Joshua 5:13–6:25 (ESV)

13 When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”

What does Joshua 5:13—6:25 reveal about what God the Spirit does in me and through me?

The obedience that comes from a true faith is an obedience that only God the Holy Spirit can work in me. The Holy Spirit brings me to a true faith in Jesus Christ and helps me to respond to God’s faithfulness by being eager to put on the full armour of God and especially give myself to prayer. He helps me to fight against my sinful desires (e.g., Romans 8:1–17); he helps me to pray (Romans 8:26–27).
