What did the Nazirite vow in effect make one to be?

Judges 13:5 (ESV)

5 for behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. No razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb, and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”

Becoming a Nazirite involved a vow of separation to holiness, as manifested by abstention from wine, strong drink, grape products, having one’s hair cut, and defilement by corpses (Numbers 6:1–21). This was comparable to the prohibitions for holy priests (Leviticus 10:9; Leviticus 21:6–11, Leviticus 21:10–11). Nazirites were in a sense in a lay priestly role in Israel.
