What is significant about the word “ended”?

Revelation 20:7 (ESV)

7 And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison

The Greek word translated as “ended” is actually the word “fulfilled.” The point is that the promised one thousand years of Satan’s imprisonment (Revelation 20:2) have achieved their purpose: because Satan could not deceive the nations during this period, the Lord Jesus Christ on his white horse (Revelation 19:11–12) could cause the gospel to go forth throughout the world and all those chosen to life could come to faith in him. With that period “fulfilled,” the Deceiver may now be released.
