Jabesh-gilead was a fortified town about thirty-two kilometres south of the Sea of Galilee and three kilometres east of the Jordan on the Wadi Yabis.1 If Nahash was able to control Jabesh-gilead, he would have control over the entire eastern Jordan border area.2
