Comfort in the face of Satan's final attacks

Revelation 20:7–10 (ESV)

7 And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison

A fear lives in many Christians’ hearts that the future is a time of greater evil and persecution than the past. Perhaps that will turn out to be true. The fear, however, cannot be based on the present passage. Satan’s release from his prison has a very specific purpose: to gather unbelievers together against the people of God. This passage tells us Satan and his hosts will get no further than to surround the camp of the saints. Before he can commence his attack, God destroys him finally and ultimately. This passage is not intended to instill fear in God’s people but to instill comfort. As so many psalms put it, God is our refuge, our tower, our citadel, our strength.
