Psalm 44:13 (ESV)

13 You have made us the taunt of our neighbors, the derision and scorn of those around us.

You mocked us before our neighbours. Those people closest to us are laughing at us. Again, we read the charge, You have done it. There are two parallel sentences. People around us have plenty of reasons to mock us. The enemies have become too strong, and the Lord seems to be okay with that. How shocking! So, it is not just bad luck. Jacob is weak, and the nations are strong. The Lord God, the God of the covenant, is letting all of this happen. Six or seven times the author uses the words, You have… The Lord plays an important role in this misery.
