Joshua 8 shows us what happens under the Mosaic covenant when all of God’s people are eager to obey and submit to him: they easily defeat their enemies. The curse that was on Israel has been abated and the people living in the land of Canaan are once again being removed. With the covenant renewal ceremony at Shechem, the people of Israel are reminded that the Lord is faithful to his promises and they re-commit themselves to obedience.
1 And the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not fear and do not be dismayed. Take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land.
