Eliakim was called to fulfill the position of palace official in Shebna's place. He is called my servant,
a title showing duty and privilege. In contrast to Shebna, Eliakim’s father is mentioned by name.
Eliakim would take over Shebna’s position with all the symbols attached to it—the robe and sash probably refer to a type of uniform worn by people in his office.
Eliakim would be a steward with power and authority. Unlike Shebna, he would be a father to the house of Judah. He would show the attitude the steward was supposed to have—one of sacrificing love and care for the people.
