With the other judges, the encampment of the enemy in Israelite territory would have been the cue for the judge to lead out the armies of the Lord against them. We would hope that Samson would rally the troops for battle, lead God’s people to a great victory, and to a uniting of the nation. But Samson is not like the other judges. He is not interested in fighting Israel’s battles. He fights alone and on his own terms.
