The mention of Samson being bound with two new ropes
raises the tension in the narrative. That these are used in order to hand Samson over to the enemy also anticipates another betrayal episode, in Judges 16:11, where new ropes
will appear again.1
13 They said to him, “No; we will only bind you and give you into their hands. We will surely not kill you.” So they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock.
