Nahum 2 ends with a conclusion that looks beyond the historical events that will unfold in Nahum’s vision and explains the ultimate reality that lies behind all these events.1
The Lord of hosts himself is against Assyria. The name Lord of hosts
refers to God as the One who is in control of all powers that exist. He is the Lord Almighty. The reader is left in absolutely no doubt that it is the Lord himself who is sending the invading army to destroy Nineveh.
13 Behold, I am against you, declares the LORD of hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall no longer be heard.
