After the Lord destroys the Assyrians, Judah once again experiences his judgment when he sends the Babylonians to take them into exile. Even though they return from exile and rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, the nation of Israel never actually experiences the return to the majesty of a united nation to which Nahum refers. The Lord’s words spoken by Nahum in Nahum 2:2 point forward to a much greater restoration that comes when he sends his promised Messiah, Jesus Christ. Ultimately, the Lord restores the majesty of his people as a new humanity united in Christ (Revelation 7:9–17).
2 For the LORD is restoring the majesty of Jacob as the majesty of Israel, for plunderers have plundered them and ruined their branches.
