According to the commitment that he had made to Bathsheba, Nathan came in to see the king while she was still speaking. It is likely that at this point Bathsheba withdrew from the immediate presence of David, for in 1 Kings 1:28, at the end of Nathan’s communication, David told his servants to send her to him once again.
David’s servants announced Nathan’s presence. They said, Here is Nathan the prophet.
This we expect, since it was the normal custom to announce those who intended to speak to the king. Yet, the text gives us a reason to wonder if Nathan had waited in an antechamber; we find the response to the report that he came in.
Regardless of the answer, we do see that Nathan paid homage to David. By this we see that no more was required of Nathan than of Bathsheba.
22 While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.
