The news that Jonathan brought concluded with the account of another response of David to the events that had taken place. He pronounces his blessing of the Lord for letting him see someone sitting upon his throne. Such a blessing displayed David’s concern for Solomon, but it also displayed his concern for the wellbeing of his kingdom. He thanked God that the kingdom would not be left to civil war when he died.
48 And the king also said, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has granted someone to sit on my throne this day, my own eyes seeing it.’”
