The great cistern at Secu may refer to a well outside Ramah, the same well from which a group of young women came to draw water when Saul previously visited the town (1 Samuel 9:11).1 This would be a good place to speak with people and ask for directions to the shepherd’s huts or the place where Samuel and the prophets gathered.
22 Then he himself went to Ramah and came to the great well that is in Secu. And he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” And one said, “Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.”
