1. 1 Samuel 19:23 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What kind of prophesying was done by Saul and the other men that he sent to capture David?

1 Samuel 19:23 (ESV)

23 And he went there to Naioth in Ramah. And the Spirit of God came upon him also, and as he went he prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

Exactly what the prophesying involved is unclear. It is most likely a reference to trance-like behaviour1 rather than the speaking of words.2 The Spirit of God constrained Saul and his men to prevent them from harming David and to allow his eventual escape.3
