Psalm 19:13 (ESV)

13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.

The author continues to pray for he well realizes his vulnerability to sin. By nature, he is vulnerable. He realizes how quickly sin can take a hold of him. Jesus also once said without hesitation, Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin (John 8:34). That is why every person needs strength from Above. Only when God protects us, are we without defect and can we be declared not guilty.

We can think here of what Jesus said from the cross on Golgotha: It is finished (John 19:30). Through his ultimate act, a complete forgiveness of all our sins has become possible. The apostle Paul understood this, as becomes clear from his writing in Romans 5:1, Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
