What did David mean when he said that Jonathan should kill him?
1 Samuel 20:8 (ESV)
8Therefore deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you. But if there is guilt in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?”
David was willing to be killed if that was what he deserved. If he had rebelled against the king and done wrong, he was willing to bear the appropriate punishment. This shows us that he was not asking Jonathan to act unjustly.
8 Therefore deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you. But if there is guilt in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?”
