The official narrative of David’s visit to Ahimelech does not mention anything about an inquiry made to the Lord on behalf of David (see 1 Samuel 21:1–9). It may be that Doeg was lying1 or that he assumed David’s questions would have involved some kind of inquiry. In either case, the manner in which Doeg presented his information was meant to suggest or confirm that the priests were aiding David in military preparations against Saul.2
