17And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Saul my father also knows this.”
Jonathan encouraged David by reminding him of God’s promises.1 His words show us that he was confident of David’s eventual rise to the throne and hoped to serve under him as second in command.2 He also affirmed the Lord’s choice of David and his rejection of Saul.3
