In light of the information Saul received from the Ziphites, he knew where to look for David and he forced David to flee to a new location. When David did so, it made it easier for Saul to track him with his troops. As a result, he closed in on David’s location, his troops advancing around a mountain in a pincer movement with David trapped in the middle.1
25 And Saul and his men went to seek him. And David was told, so he went down to the rock and lived in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
