What is the meaning of the proverb of the ancients quoted by David?
1 Samuel 24:13 (ESV)
13As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness.’ But my hand shall not be against you.
The proverb quoted by David is not found elsewhere in Scripture. It seems to affirm that one’s deeds serve to express your disposition. If David was wicked, then Saul would not be dead.1 Along with exonerating David, the proverb also condemns Saul for his malicious pursuit of David.2
