This is the very same word Jesus used on the cross, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46). In all the injustice Jesus experienced at the hands of his tormentors, he did not retaliate (1 Peter 2:21–25) but entrusted himself to God who would set the crooked straight in his time and manner (as promised in passages as Deuteronomy 32:35, Deuteronomy 32:41, and Deuteronomy 32:43). We might say that Jesus did not meddle in God’s affairs. Because he surrendered his circumstances to God’s care, he could die (Luke 23:46). Christians suffering for Christ’s sake are also instructed to entrust themselves to God’s care and so leave the wrongs done to them in his righteous hands.
19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.
