To what moment might Peter be referring?

1 Peter 3:16 (ESV)

16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

Peter might have in mind the possibility of the change of heart of those who persecute the believers, or he may be looking ahead to their demise—when they shall be brought to shame and realize that the people they insulted, falsely accused, and oppressed are actually honoured by God.1
