1. 1 Samuel 25:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why did David refer to himself as Nabal’s son?

1 Samuel 25:8 (ESV)

8 Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let my young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a feast day. Please give whatever you have at hand to your servants and to your son David.’”

David treated Nabal with respect. The use of the term son is an appropriate means of expressing and emphasizing politeness and humility in his request.1
