Why are we given so many details about Saul’s position in the camp?
1 Samuel 26:5 (ESV)
5Then David rose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, with Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Saul was lying within the encampment, while the army was encamped around him.
The details emphasizes that Saul appeared to be safe and secure. Surrounded by his army and chief commander he had all the protection that he could possibly have had.1 However, despite all the appearances, in reality, Saul was defenceless as David was able to creep to his side without alarm.2
