Why did David call attention to the fact that Abner was a man?
1 Samuel 26:15 (ESV)
15And David said to Abner, “Are you not a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord.
Most likely David was seeking to emphasize that Abner neglected his duties not only as a commander but also as a man. In a society where men were expected to provide and protect, he had failed one of his primary responsibilities.
15 And David said to Abner, “Are you not a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord.
