Considering the six hundred men, together with their wives and children, it is very possible that there were more than one thousand people who accompanied David to Gath. This is quite a significant number. They would have had to travel roughly forty-five kilometres to reach the city, if they moved directly from Hachilah (see 1 Samuel 26:1).1
