A medium is a person who consults the dead on behalf of the living.1 Fearful of the Philistine army, Saul is willing to consult a medium in order to receive some kind of help/a word of assurance regarding the coming battle.2 Earlier his sin was compared to that of divination (1 Samuel 15:23), but now he would be actively involved in the same.3 He engaged in this act despite knowing that it is a violation of God’s law,4 thereby bringing an end to his relationship with the LORD.5
7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “Behold, there is a medium at En-dor.”
