It is very hard for us to live with the consequences of our sin (rather than trying to escape through further disobedience) when our sins and bad choices have a big impact on our lives.
Consider marriage as an example. The Bible makes it clear that we are not to be married to unbelievers. The Old Testament warns against marrying unbelievers (Deuteronomy 7:3–4) and the New Testament implies that the prohibition remains (1 Corinthians 7:39; 2 Corinthians 6:14). If you find yourself married to someone who is not a Christian or you decide to marry someone who is not a Christian (in disobedience), you do not have the right to break your marriage vows just because you made a mistake. We’re called to obey God and serve our partner even if the marriage should never have taken place.
