This is the key word of this verse. Three things about hope are communicated to us here:

  1. the nature and security of this hope—the hope laid up for you in heaven;

  2. this hope is the basis of faith and love, which we read about in verse 4;

  3. this hope came to the Colossians through the word of the truth, the gospel.
