Summary of Psalm 147:7

Psalm 147:7 (ESV)

7 Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre!

In this verse, for the second time in this psalm, the call goes out to praise the Lord; and this time also an instrument is mentioned: the lyre. This is a stringed instrument—a small harp.

The first verb in this verse (mostly translated as to sing) has to do with answering God. Our speaking, singing, or confessing to God is always an answer to God’s Word. He has the first Word and people should not speak before it is their turn to do so.
